Once a proposed initiative or referendum has cleared for circulation, fails to qualify for the ballot, or is in the process of having its signatures verified, the proposed initiative or referendum’s status will be updated on this page. Once an initiative or referendum measure has become eligible for the ballot, it can be found on the Eligible Statewide Initiative and Referendum Measures page. An eligible measure is one in which the required number of signatures have been submitted to and verified by the county elections officials. Eligible measures will become qualified for the ballot on the 131st day prior to the next Statewide General Election unless withdrawn by the proponents prior to its qualification by the Secretary of State. A referendum can qualify for the ballot up to 31 days before an election. Once an initiative or referendum measure has qualified for the ballot, it can be found on the Qualified Statewide Ballot Measures page.
