Beginning December 2005, $195 million of Help America Vote Act (HAVA)funds were allocated to California’s 58 counties for the purchase or lease of HAVA compliant voting equipment, and for expenses related to deployment of voting equipment (e.g. poll worker training and voter education).

The $195 million allocation was distributed to counties, after a lengthy consultation process with local election officials and county representatives, as follows:
