New Jurat Requirement for 2008

Effective January 1, 2008, Assembly Bill 886 (Chapter 399, Statutes of 2007) amends section 8202 of the Government Code to remove references to "personal knowledge" for establishing an affiant's identity when executing a jurat. This is consistent with changes the bill makes to Civil Code section 1185, which will no longer allow the identity of an affiant to be established by personal knowledge alone. The new jurat form is available in PDF file format and can be viewed, filled in and printed from your computer.

The notary public identifies the signer based on satisfactory evidence and completes the entry in the journal.
