Jurats

Statutes of 2007, chapter 399 (AB 886 Runner) amended California Government Code section 8202 to remove references to "personal knowledge" for establishing an affiant's identity when executing a jurat (pdf ~10KB) . Consistent with changes the bill made to California Civil Code section 1185, the identity of an affiant cannot be established by personal knowledge alone and requires proof by satisfactory evidence.

The notary public must identify the signer based on satisfactory evidence and complete the entry in the journal.
