Photographs are arranged by album number, and by subject therein. Formats included are: photographic prints in albums.

Consists of photographs taken by William M. McCarthy during automobile trips across California primarily, but also includes road trips throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Cuba. All photographs are in black and white, and many have notations written on them as to location and date, probably by William McCarthy. There are several negative prints within the collection, see Reference Archivists concerning access.

Subjects include San Francisco and the Bay Area, particularly during the period following the earthquake and fire of 1906; hotels, resorts, and tourist attractions across California; the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition (San Francisco); Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition (Portland, Oregon, 1905); Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition (Seattle, 1909); the 1915 Panama California Exposition (San Diego); San Diego Exposition of 1935; Yosemite National Park; Yellowstone National Park; Grand Canyon; Niagara Falls; Golden Gate Park (San Francisco); Lake Tahoe; and armories and artillery guns. Much of the collection focuses on northern California locales, but southern California areas such as Los Angeles and San Diego are also well represented.

Consists of photographs created by Munsey Photo primarily of Southern California such as the city of Los Angeles (Broadway and Third St; Court House; East Lake Park…); the Hotel Green in Pasadena; Catalina Island; various missions (San Luis Rey, San Juan Capistrano, San Diego, and Santa Barbara); and Alpine Tavern on Mt. Lowe.

Consists of stock photos from several commercial photographic labs in Southern California. Many photographs are intentionally generic and lack specific identifying information as one might expect from stock images. Subject strengths include California urban scenes, landscapes and aerial views, aviation, sports (particularly golf and horse racing), and the Long Beach earthquake, 1933.

Arranged chronologically. Formats included are: oversized photographic prints and oversized color photographs (hand–tinted).

Photographs document the development of Country Club Heights at Lake Elsinore (Riverside County) and include views of the resort marina on opening day June 5, 1927, the employees of the Clevelin Realty Co. (construction crew with equipment), and the Clevelin Country Club under construction.
