California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D.,
Urges Voters to Sign Their Ballot Return Envelope

Sacramento, Calif. - California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., urges voters to sign their ballot return envelope. The voter’s signature must compare to the voter’s signature on file with the county in order to be counted. If the signature is missing or noncomparable to the voter’s signature on file, a voter’s county elections office will contact that voter. If a voter is contacted by their county elections office for verification of their signature, voters should work with their county elections office to resolve the matter.

“Ensure your voice is heard this election," said Secretary Weber. "Please take a moment to verify that your ballot return envelope is clearly signed and that you take the steps to make necessary corrections if there are issues with that signature,” said Secretary Weber.

Voters who forgot to sign their ballot return envelope or whose signature does not compare with the signature(s) in their voter registration file have until 5:00 p.m. PT on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, to fix their signature.

To fix a missing or noncomparable signature, voters can visit VerifyMySignature.sos.ca.gov to access their county’s instructions on how to provide their signature to ensure their ballot can be counted. Instructions and options for returning the form may vary by county. Failure to follow instructions may result in a voter’s ballot not being counted.

Voters who sign up for “Where’s My Ballot?” will receive updates via text, email, or phone about when their ballot is mailed, received, if it has been counted, or if it has issues that need to be fixed.

Information about county elections offices can be found at sos.ca.gov/countyelections-offices.
