Secretary of State Alex Padilla to Provide Keynote Address at Pacific Clinics’ 22nd Annual Latino Conference

LOS ANGELES, CA – Secretary of State Alex Padilla will provide one of two keynote addresses at Pacific Clinics’ 22nd Annual Latino Conference in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 16, 2019. The office of Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano, represented by Mental Health Liaison Dr. Barbara Dickerson, will deliver the other keynote address.

The theme for this year's conference is Suicide: A Mental Health Crisis in Our Society – The Importance of Prevention and Early Treatment. In addition to the keynote, 13 presenters will discuss the importance of prevention and early treatment.

About the conference:
Nearly 45,000 suicides occurred in the United States in 2016, more than twice the number of homicides—making it the 10th-leading cause of death. Among people ages 15 to 34, suicide is the second-leading cause of death. Nationwide, suicides have increased nearly 30 percent since the turn of the century. The purpose of this year’s conference is to increase participation in a collaborative approach to suicide prevention and early intervention and to pool resources on suicide prevention activities and public policies.
