California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to Speak in Support of Bill to Move up California Primary

SACRAMENTO - Secretary of State Alex Padilla will testify at the California State Assembly Committee on Elections and Redistricting hearing on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in support of Senate Bill 568. The goal of this bill, authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens), is to give the nation’s largest state a louder voice in the presidential selection process, by moving our primary earlier in the election season.

Specifically, SB 568 calls for the California presidential primary to be held on the third Tuesday in March and authorizes the Governor to move it even earlier if other states move up their primary elections.

SB 568 has received bipartisan support, passing off the Senate floor on a 32-6 vote in May.
