MEDIA ADVISORY
Secretary of State Alex Padilla will join Orange County Registrar Neal Kelley for Pilot Deployment of VoteCal
Successful Deployment of Statewide Voter Database a Critical Element in Modernizing Elections in California
VoteCal, the Secretary of State’s project to build a statewide voter registration database, will be implemented in two pilot counties on Monday, July 20. Orange County and Sacramento County will be the first to pilot VoteCal.
Secretary of State Alex Padilla will join Orange County Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley, as pilot implementation of VoteCal goes live in Orange County.
When VoteCal is fully deployed in 2016, it will replace the existing voter registration databases in each of California’s 58 counties and provide a single statewide voter registration database. VoteCal’s many functions will improve service to the voters of California by:
- Providing a publicly available website which will allow voters to register online, check the status of their ballot, and find their polling place.
- Connecting the Secretary of State and all 58 county elections offices together to improve the voter registration process.
- Giving voters the ability to see if their vote-by-mail or provisional ballot was counted by their county elections official and, if it was not, the reason why it was not counted.
- Providing a single, official statewide database of voter registration information.
