California Secretary of State Alex Padilla issued the following statement, following President Barack Obama’s address to the Illinois State Legislature this morning.
“Once again President Obama has demonstrated his commitment to stronger voting rights. I applaud President Obama for making the case that automatic registration should be adopted nationwide. The President has called on every state to remove barriers to voting and make it easier for Americans to cast their ballots. An inclusive democracy starts with registering all eligible citizens to vote.”
“In California, we hear President Obama’s call to increase access to the polls—and we are already taking action. I am proud that California has already signed into law the New Motor Voter Act, which will make voter registration a seamless process for millions of Californians.”
