Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D. Shares Voter Tips for California’s June 2, 2026, Primary Election

Sacramento, Calif. – Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D. shares election-related tips for voters as they prepare for the June 2, 2026, Primary Election.

Voters Can Vote Early and Drop Off Your Vote-by-Mail Ballot in Person

Polling Place Counties

For the first time this election, traditional polling place counties will provide at least one early voting location on the Saturday before the election. For the upcoming Statewide Primary Election, that Saturday is May 30, 2026. These early voting locations will be open for a minimum of 6 hours and can be identified by a tool on the Secretary of State’s website: caearlyvoting.sos.ca.gov.

Vote Center Counties

In addition to vote centers opening 10 days before the election, vote center counties will be opening more vote centers this Saturday so eligible voters can vote in person or drop off their ballot ahead of Election Day.

Find an Early Voting Location

Whether you are in a polling place county or a vote center county, early voting locations provide voters an opportunity to vote in person, drop-off their ballot, receive a replacement ballot, vote using an accessible voting machine, access voting materials in multiple languages, update their voter registration as well as complete same day registration.

The nearest drop box or early voting location can be located through a tool on the Secretary of State’s website: caearlyvoting.sos.ca.gov.

Plan for Election Day

Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Voters in line at 8:00 p.m. when the polls close, have the right to cast a ballot. If a voter has a ballot, they can drop it off at their county elections official’s office or at any polling place, drop box, drop-off location, or vote center in the state on Election Day.

How Voters Can Find Their Polling Place

Voters can look up their polling place using a tool on the Secretary of State’s website: sos.ca.gov/elections/polling-place/.

Same Day Voter Registration

Same Day Voter Registration, also known as Conditional Voter Registration, is for Californians who missed the May 18 deadline to register to vote or update their voter registration information for the June 2, 2026, Primary Election.

Eligible citizens who need to register or re-register to vote within 14 days of an election can complete this process to register and vote at their county elections office, polling place, or vote center. Their ballots will be processed and counted once the county elections office has completed the voter registration verification process. Voters can utilize the conditional voter registration process from May 19 all the way through Election Day on June 2.

How Voters Can Check Their Voter Registration Status

Voters can check the status of their registration, see where they are registered, and find their polling location using the My Voter Status tool.

Respect the Polling Place

In California it is illegal to impede or interfere with anyone’s right to vote. Do not campaign for votes, wear campaign headwear or attire, coerce, influence, discourage, or interfere with any voter within 100 feet of the polling place.

Be Informed

The state Voter Information Guide is mailed to every voting household in California and is available in ten languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Khmer, Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese. A county Voter Information Guide with a sample of your ballot, information about local candidates and ballot measures, and the location of your polling place or vote centers is provided by your county elections official.

Know Your Rights

The California Voter Bill of Rights is printed in the state Voter Information Guide, which was sent to every voting household in the state, and will also be posted in every polling place on Election Day. The Voter Bill of Rights is available online in ten languages: http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-bill-rights/.  A video outlining the California Bill of Rights can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/USFLmHvWKys
