California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., Issues Statement on Revised State Budget Proposal
Sacramento, Calif. – California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., today issued the following statement regarding Governor Gavin Newsom’s revised state budget proposal:
"In a time when the very act of voting has come under attack across the nation, it is essential that we take deliberate and sustained action to prevent voter suppression and uphold protections for the sake of defending our democracy.
I am pleased to see that Governor Newsom has directed attention within the new state budget into identifying ways to protect and strengthen election integrity, while also investing in core services, putting the needs of Californians first.
By making intentional commitments into areas that protect the voices of the state and the essential services our communities rely on, we are safeguarding California’s future."
