California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., Certifies Candidate List for June 2, 2026, Primary Election
Sacramento, Calif. – California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., today published the certified list of candidates who will appear on the June 2, 2026, Primary Election ballot. The official list, with ballot designations for each candidate, if applicable, is available at: https://elections.cdn.sos.ca.gov/statewide-elections/2026-primary/cert-list-candidates.pdf
The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act requires that all candidates for a voter-nominated office be listed on the same ballot. The voter-nominated offices on the June ballot are: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Controller, Treasurer, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, 4 members of the Board of Equalization, 52 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 80 members of the State Assembly, and 20 members of the even-numbered State Senate districts.
Anyone can vote for any candidate for a voter-nominated office, regardless of party preference. The two candidates receiving the most votes move on to the November 3, 2026, General Election regardless of vote totals. Even if there are only one or two candidates in a race in the primary, a general election is still required.
The Superintendent of Public Instruction will be on the June ballot as a nonpartisan office. If a candidate receives a majority of the votes cast for Superintendent of Public Instruction, that candidate will be elected outright. If no candidate wins a majority of the votes cast in the June Primary, then the two candidates receiving the most votes move on to the November 3, 2026, General Election.
The first June 2, 2026, Primary Election ballots may go out as early as April 3, 2026, to California’s military and overseas voters. Counties begin mailing ballots to all other voters no later than May 4, 2026.
