Family History Week Coming to Sacramento April 1-6

Sacramento, Calif. – From April 1-6, a coalition of archives, historical groups, libraries, museums, genealogical societies, and other community organizations in the Sacramento area will join forces for the first time in more than a decade to host a six-day series of events designed to enable individuals to explore their family heritage. The events aim to help participants discover their ancestors, the significant events of their lives, and the stories that define them, allowing them to create a rich family legacy to pass on to future generations.

One of the event’s highlights will be the display of replicas of the 1849 and 1879 State Constitutions by the California Secretary of State's Office. This exhibition will be available on Tuesday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additionally, on Saturday, April 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the California State Archives will be offering tours and classes showcasing their extensive genealogical resources. Advance registration is required for the Saturday tours.

Natalia Visante, Acting State Archivist, expressed her enthusiasm about the upcoming Family History Week, stating, "Family History Week is an example of how we are meeting our strategic goals to build partnerships with genealogical groups and provide the citizens of California with connections to genealogical resources. Attendees will learn about new resources and meet people who share a common interest in the past, and hopefully leave with useful information to enhance their genealogical research skills. We look forward to welcoming you to the State Archives and sharing our resources with you."

The State Archives, a division of the California State Secretary of State's Office, serves as a vital hub for historical records and genealogical research within the state.
