Secretary of State Alex Padilla Statement on Kabul Attack at Voter Registration Center

SACRAMENTO - California Secretary of State Alex Padilla released the statement below after learning of the attack at a Kabul, Afghanistan voter registration center killing dozens.

"My heart is with the families who lost loved ones today and the dozens of people who were injured in Kabul exercising their right to register to vote. The horrendous attack in Kabul was not just an attack on a voter registration center, it was an attack on democracy everywhere. This was a cowardly act of terrorism that targeted innocent people, including children. No person should have to fear violence when participating in the democratic process."

"Those who wish to undermine democracy underestimate the resilience of those who seek freedom. Senseless acts of violence like what we saw in Kabul today are a reminder of how hard we must fight to protect democracy."
