Secretary of State Alex Padilla Releases Latest Report of Registration; Nearly 1.5 Million More Registered Voters Since last Gubernatorial Election
SACRAMENTO – As of September 7, there were 19,086,589 Californians registered to vote. This is the highest total number of registered voters heading into a Gubernatorial General Election in state history. 75.81% of eligible Californians are registered to vote.
There are 1,451,713 more registered voters than there were at the same point during the previous Gubernatorial Election cycle (2014).

“There are nearly 1.5 million more voters on the rolls than there were heading into our last Gubernatorial Election four years ago,” Secretary of State Padilla said. “The next step for our registered Californians is turning out to vote. The General Election is next month, so it's time for voters to make a plan to vote, either in person or by mail. I’m also calling on elections officials and community leaders to help inform voters about their options for participating. California voters have access to a number of helpful tools and resources including the recently released Voter Information Guide website and Quick Guide to Props.”
“There is still time for eligible Californians to register to vote or update their registration, especially if you’ve moved since the last election. Updating your voter registration can be done quickly online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov. If you are not sure of your registration status, you can easily check it at VoterStatus.sos.ca.gov,” Padilla added.
October 22 is the traditional voter registration deadline for the November 6, 2018 General Election. If an eligible Californian misses the October 22 deadline, they can complete the “conditional voter registration” process and vote the same day. However, this option is only available at county elections offices and select satellite locations (vary by county).
