Over 300,000 LLC Statements of Information Filed Online through Secretary of State E-file Tool

SACRAMENTO – Secretary of State Alex Padilla announced today that over 300,000 Limited Liability Company (LLC) Statements of Information have been filed online since the June 2017 release of the agency’s new e-file tool.

“A process that could only be done via the mail or in-person can now be easily completed online,” said Secretary of State Alex Padilla. “In under a year we have had overwhelming customer adoption of the LLC Statements of Information e-file tool. This project shows the power of government using technology to better serve customers. This is all part of making it easier to do business in California.”

In 2016, 375,000 LLC Statements of Information were filed with the Secretary of State's office by mail or in person. Since the launch of the LLC e-file tool in June 2017, 70% of all LLC Statements of Information were filed online. In 2018, 85% of all LLC Statements of Information have been filed online.

Since the launch of the new tool in June 2017, LLCs have had the option to file their Statements of Information online, including required statements which are due 90 days after registration and every 2 years thereafter during the month of registration. This includes submission of interim statements to update the LLC’s information of record. The online form can be directly accessed at llcbizfile.sos.ca.gov

The LLC Statement of Information e-file tool is part of the Secretary of State’s Digital Initiative to make it easier for business owners to file documents and find records online. Other recent upgrades from the Digital Initiative include: the ability for Californians to file trademark and service mark applications for registration online, an enhanced California Business Search engine featuring 11 million searchable business records, an updated search engine for the state’s successor-in-interest claims, and a Starting a New Business resource page.

Last year, GO-Biz recognized the Secretary of State’s Digital Initiative as a champion of Breaking Barriers to Doing Business which recognizes entities for their hard work and innovative efforts to help the business community start up and expand in California.
