SACRAMENTO – Today Secretary of State Alex Padilla released a new video to remind Californians of their voting rights.

“Before casting a ballot this November, I want all voters to know their rights,” Secretary of State Padilla said. “This two minute video featuring animated bears is a fun and easy way for California voters to learn about their rights. This video posted on Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook will help bring important elections information to a new audience.”

The video is based on the updated "plain language" voter bill of rights that debuted earlier this year. Californians will also find the voter bill of rights on the inside cover of the state Voter Information Guide and posted in every polling place. The Secretary of State worked with a several nonpartisan organizations, including the League of Women Voters of California and the Center for Civic Design, to ensure the Voter Information Guide and Voter Bill of Rights were written in plain language that is clear and easy to understand.

“Many people may not know all of their voting rights,” Padilla added. “For example, if you are in line at 8:00pm on Election Day you still have the right to cast a ballot. You can also drop your vote-by-mail ballot off at any polling place in your county. If you make a mistake on your ballot and you haven’t yet cast it, you have the right to request a new ballot.”

“As more and more Californians get election information through social media, we need your help. Share this video and links to voter registration with your networks today, to ensure that your friends and family know their rights,” Padilla added.
