Secretary of State Alex Padilla Encourages California Citizens to Register to Vote by October 24

Less Than One Week Remaining for Californians to Register to Vote in November 8 General Election

SACRAMENTO – October 24 is the deadline for eligible California citizens to register to vote for the first time or to update their voter registration information for the November 8 General Election.

“We are just days away from the October 24 voter registration deadline," Secretary of State Alex Padilla said. "Whether you are registering to vote for the first time, or you just need to update your registration information—there’s still time before the October 24 deadline. Californians can register to vote online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov. Online voter registration is fast, it’s easy, and you can even do it from your smartphone or tablet!”

Californians can register to vote, or update their registration information on the Secretary of State’s official voter registration website: RegisterToVote.ca.gov. Paper voter registration forms are available at your county elections office, library, Department of Motor Vehicles offices, or U.S. post office. Paper voter registration forms must be postmarked on or before the October 24 deadline.

Californians may also check their voter registration status via the new My Voter Status page on the Secretary of State’s website.

Californians must re-register to vote if:

  • They move to a new permanent residence,
  • They change their name, or
  • Want to change their political party choice
