Final Data Show 17.8 Million Voters
Registered for November 4 Election

SACRAMENTO - Secretary of State Debra Bowen today published the final pre-election report that shows 17,803,823 Californians are now registered to vote.

The official voter registration report shows the total number of registered voters has increased by 517,940 since this time four years ago. The percentage of voters with no political party preference has also continued to tick up, going from 20.3 percent in 2010 to 23.3 percent now.

While the statewide voter registration database is updated daily, California law requires voter registration updates 60 and 15 days before each general election. After the 58 county elections officials certify their voter data, the Secretary of State compiles all data into a statewide report and offers various dissections by political district and political party.

The complete 15-day Report of Registration is at www.sos.ca.gov/elections/ror/ror-pages/15day-general-2014. The report reflects data gathered after the registration deadline for the November 4 General Election, with county updates to voter registration rolls that include the removal of registrants who have died, moved out of state, or are ineligible to vote, as well as the addition of new registrants.

Polls will be open on election day from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Some county elections offices will be open this weekend.

"If you still have your vote-by-mail ballot, drop it off at a polling place or your county elections office on election day," said Secretary Bowen, California's chief elections official. "Ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. on election day and postmarks do not count."

The updated registration totals for the seven qualified political parties and voters who have no political party preference follow, along with the comparable data from four years ago.
