• Use digits and colons to show clock times. Use standard time (also known as regular time, civilian time, non-military time or 12-hour time). Distinguish morning and afternoon with a.m. and p.m., respectively, with no spaces or capitalization.

    • Examples:
      • 7:00 a.m.
      • 1:30 p.m.
  • When describing timing of events in sentences, use the words from and to rather than a hyphen.

    • Example:
      • The office will be open Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • When listing hours of availability, use the word to rather than a hyphen.

    • Example:
      • 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • When describing time durations, do not abbreviate words such as hours and minutes.

    • Examples:
      • Average wait time: 10 minutes
      • The hearing will last up to four hours.
      • Please prepare for a five-minute speech.
  • If a sentence ends in a.m. or p.m., do not add an additional period.
