Secretary of State Alex Padilla to Testify at US House Committee on Homeland Security Hearing on Election Security

WASHINGTON, D.C. - California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will testify at a hearing of the US House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security tomorrow Wednesday, February 13. The public hearing is entitled “Defending Our Democracy: Building Partnerships to Protect America’s Elections.” This hearing will be part of a series of hearings the new House Democratic majority is holding on H.R. 1, the For the People Act.

Secretary Padilla will discuss measures California has taken to better secure our elections and what the federal government can do to further support states and local jurisdictions. In 2018, new offices of Election Cybersecurity and Risk Management were created within the Secretary of State. The agency also launched VoteSure, a first-of-its kind public information campaign to combat election misinformation.
