Padilla Family Statement on the Passing of Their Beloved Guadalupe Padilla

LOS ANGELES – The Padilla family issued the following statement on the passing of Guadalupe Padilla:

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Guadalupe ‘Lupe’ Padilla, wife of Santos, mother of Julie, Alex, and Ackley, mother-in-law of Angela and Patty, grandmother of Christian, Roman, Alex, Diego, Kaylyn, Kathryn, and Khloey, and friend to all.

Lupe came to the United States from Chihuahua, Mexico, like so many immigrants, in pursuit of the American Dream. She worked for forty years as a housekeeper and, together with Santos, dedicated herself every day to giving her children love and discipline as well as instilling in them the values of getting a good education and service to others. It is no coincidence that her three children are public servants.

Lupe was selfless and always found ways to serve and help others. We will always remember her for her sense of humor, her faith, her incredible cooking, her love of the Tarahumara people, her resourcefulness, her creativity, and her love of music — especially trio music and Mexican ballads.

While she was a mother of three and grandmother of seven, she will always be lovingly referred to as “Mama Padilla” to the thousands of friends, neighbors, and campaign volunteers who met her over the years.

We will miss her tremendously, but take comfort in knowing that she now rests in peace as she awaits us in heaven.”

Guadalupe Padilla was 74. Information on services is pending.
