MEDIA ADVISORY

Secretary of State Alex Padilla Joins U.S. Elections Assistance Commission Press Call to Detail Plans for West Coast FY18 HAVA Funds

SILVER SPRING, MD - On Tuesday, August 21, 2018, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) will release program narratives and budgets from 49 of the 55 states and territories eligible to receive the newly appropriated Help America Vote Act (HAVA) funds contained in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018. The narrative and budget release will precede EAC regional press calls to provide additional information about the grants and state-specific narratives.

Program narratives and budgets will be posted at this link on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. ET, just one day shy of five months since President Donald J. Trump signed the omnibus appropriations bill into law and 77 days before the 2018 midterm elections. Plans for the six remaining states that were given due date extensions will be posted at a later date.

The three regional press teleconference briefings will feature EAC representatives who will provide an overview of how state plans were evaluated and how states are spending funds, with a focus on plans in that specific region and spending ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. Region-specific Secretaries of State will provide additional details on their individual state’s plan and budget. There will be an opportunity for each speaker to answer reporter questions.

*Media planning to join the West Coast call will need to RSVP to Brenda Bowser Soder at bsoder@eac.gov to receive call-in information.
