Secretary of State Alex Padilla Appoints Jesse F. Melgar Chief Communications Officer
SACRAMENTO, CA– California Secretary of State Alex Padilla announced today the appointment of Jesse F. Melgar to serve as Chief Communications Officer effective immediately. Melgar will join the Secretary’s executive management team.
“I am excited to welcome Jesse to my leadership team,” said Secretary of State Padilla. “His experience working at the intersection of policy and communications will strengthen our civic engagement and public education initiatives.”
Melgar, 29, previously served as Communications Director for State Senator Ricardo Lara and the California Latino Legislative Caucus. He also served as Communications Director for Equality California, Account Executive at Cerrell Associates and Communications Manager at the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce.
A Riverside native, Melgar is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles where he double majored in Political Science and Chicano Studies. He is a candidate for a Master’s of Public Policy from the University of California, Riverside’s School of Public Policy.
