MEDIA ADVISORY

Senate Elections Committee Hearing on Campaign Finance Reform to be held in Los Angeles

Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) will chair a Senate Committee on Elections and Constitutional Amendments oversight hearing focused on campaign finance regulation on Friday, December 11 in Los Angeles. Friday’s hearing will examine current state and local practices, as well as the outlook for advances in campaign finance regulation and disclosure. California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will discuss campaign finance reform efforts at the hearing.

In September, Secretary Padilla launched Power Search, a new open source campaign finance search engine available on the Secretary of State’s website. Power Search allows anyone to swiftly and easily review the source, recipient and amount of state level campaign contributions. Power Search was developed in a partnership between the Secretary of State’s office and MapLight— a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization that tracks money's influence on politics.
