SACRAMENTO MEDIA ADVISORY

Monday is Last Day to Register to Vote;
Drive-Thru Registration at Cal Expo Until Midnight

WHAT:
Secretary of State Debra Bowen will host a deadline-day drive to give eligible people in the Sacramento area a final opportunity to register to vote in the November election. People may drive to the event and register on the spot, or register online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov.
Visuals will include a festive drive-thru circle with balloons and signs, costumed characters and people registering voters in their cars, on bikes and on foot.
Voter registration applications must be postmarked or received in person by elections officials no later than midnight 15 days before Election Day. Online voter registration applications must also be submitted by midnight (the online system timestamps each application once it is completed and submitted).
October 22 is the deadline to register to vote in the November 6 General Election. There is no Election Day registration. As of September 7, a total of 17,259,680 Californians were registered to vote, representing 72.6 percent of eligible Californians. The final statewide Report of Registration will be published November 2.
"If you haven't yet registered to vote in next month's presidential election, it's time to make it happen," said Secretary Bowen, California's chief elections officer. "Go online or head over to Cal Expo on Monday before the midnight deadline."
