NOTARY PUBLIC EDUCATION REGULATIONS

Government Code section 8201 requires all notary public applicants to complete approved courses of study prior to being appointed as notaries public.

The goal of mandatory education is to commission notaries public who are properly trained in their professions and who fully understand their duties and responsibilities, in an effort to standardize knowledge for all notaries public, and thereby reduce complaints and lawsuits due to negligence or misconduct.

The Secretary of State's office has adopted regulations to implement this mandatory education program and the procedures for approving educational vendors. Below are links to the text of the Notary Public Education Regulations and Vendor Application.
