Secretary of State Alex Padilla and Uber Partner to Promote Voter Education

SAN FRANCISCO - Secretary of State Alex Padilla and Uber have announced a new public-private partnership to utilize Uber's platform to inform both riders and drivers about critical election deadlines and information.

"Our partnership with Uber will deliver key election information directly to the smartphones of millions of Californians," Secretary of State Padilla said. "This is another powerful example of how public-private partnerships can use tech to inform and empower citizens. Working with Uber provides a new avenue for our office to provide verified election information directly to Californians."

Uber launched the first phase of the partnership on Monday, May 21, by including the message below and a link to RegisterToVote.ca.gov encouraging all users to register before the midnight voter registration deadline.

From June 2 through Election Day—June 5—the Uber app will provide the reminder message below to riders and drivers with a link to VoterStatus.sos.ca.gov where they can lookup their nearest polling place or vote center.

“We're thrilled to partner with Secretary Padilla to promote civic engagement by providing our millions of riders and drivers with resources to register and vote on election day,” said Tom Maguire, Uber West General Manager.
