Secretary of State Alex Padilla Certifies Candidates for Assembly District 51 Special Primary Election

SACRAMENTO – Secretary of State Alex Padilla today certified the list of candidates who will appear on the October 3, 2017, Special Primary Election ballot for Assembly District 51.

Assembly District 51 is wholly contained within Los Angeles County.

The official certified list of candidates with their contact information is available online: https://elections.cdn.sos.ca.gov//special-elections/2017-ad51/cert-candidates-contact-list.pdf

The Assembly District 51 special election is being held to fill the vacancy due to the resignation of Jimmy Gomez. Gomez resigned after being elected Representative of the 34th Congressional District.

In a special primary, if one candidate receives a majority of the votes cast (at least 50 percent plus one), no additional election is necessary.  If no candidate receives a majority of the votes, a runoff election will be held on December 5 with a ballot featuring the two candidates who received the most votes in the primary, regardless of party preference.
