Secretary of State Bowen Announces
Certified List for November 6 General Election

SACRAMENTO - Secretary of State Debra Bowen today released the certified list of candidates who will appear on the November 6, 2012, General Election ballot. The official certified list of candidates, with ballot designations and contact information for each candidate, is www.sos.ca.gov/elections/2012-elections/nov-general/pdf/certified-list-candidates.pdf.

This year, in addition to the presidential contest, all 53 Congressional seats, all 80 State Assembly seats and the 20 odd-numbered State Senate seats are up for election.

June 2012 was the first statewide primary election since the Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act took effect, and all candidates for a voter-nominated office (legislative and congressional) were listed on the same ballot. Each voter selected any one candidate for the office, regardless of party preference. The top two vote-getters from each of the legislative and congressional contests advanced to the general election.

The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act does not apply to candidates running for U.S. president, county central committee and local offices. In those contests, the winner from each qualified political party’s June 5 primary has advanced to the general election.

The last day to register to vote in the November 6 General Election is October 22. The last day to request a vote-by-mail ballot is October 26.
